This is for one slice. Choose the number that corresponds with the slice you would like. Multiple orders made at the same time will ship together.
These are prime, first and second slices of knobcone pinecones. First slices are close to the stem and give you a kinda strange irregular pattern that is usually very pretty, on one side and on the other side is the beautiful, classic third eye swirl. Second slice gives you a mirror image of that prime cut on one side and a slightly smaller less interesting face on the other.
The slices are then put into a vacuum chamber with wood stabilizer. This is done because the cones are naturally fragile and spring loaded to open up after being cut. The vacuum, once released drives the stabilizer deep into the cone slices. This process darkens the slices, but sanding lightens them and only the softest portions remain dark, increasing the contrast and accentuating the beauty of the slices.
The slices will have natural holes and cracks that will need to be filled. They are also only rough cut so they will need sanding. Care needs to be given in the sanding process to not create heat that will cause the slices to spring apart. They will also need to be resealed immediately after being sanded.
